The United Arab Emirates has formally approved some of the most extensive legal reforms ever seen in the country. These include major changes in the intellectual property space including an expansion of trade mark laws, revisions to patent laws, stronger copyright rules and a greater protection of personal data.
The new trade mark law which came into place on the 2nd January this year includes a significantly expanded definition of trade marks. Sinead Quigley and Bassel El Turk from Rouse in Dubai will explore the key changes which have been made to the trade mark law and how this will affect brand owners operating in the Emirates.
