Biography

Mona is a Head of Trade Marks & Brands-Middle East

Mona is a Trade Mark specialist with over 22 years of experience across the Middle East and North Africa. She joined Rouse in 2000 and played a pivotal role in establishing the Trade Mark & Brands Agency practice in the Dubai office during its formative years. Mona has also played a key role in the creation and running of our Formalities Team in Dubai, which provides process support to our Trade Mark & Brands practice group.

Mona provides expert advice to clients on a wide range of matters including brand creation, filing and protection strategies including the Madrid Protocol route. Mona has extensive experience  managing global portfolios (regional and international). Her practice extends to all aspects of trade marks and branding from clearance, prosecution, opposition, appeals and administrative cancellation proceedings. Mona also advises on cultural considerations and potential risks associated with the Arabic language. For a number of clients Mona’s practice includes managing trade mark portfolios extending to Europe, America, and Asia. She has experience of working in a wide range of sectors including food and beverages, fashion, retail, hospitality, banking, clothing and footwear, pharmaceuticals, consumer healthcare, beauty, tobacco and many others.

Mona represents the office across all government fronts including ministries and notary publics. She has cultivated strong and trusted relationships with these entities, fostering efficient collaboration through active engagements. In addition to these responsibilities, Mona oversees the operations of the Translation Department.

Mona is an active member of INTA’s Trade Mark Office Practices Committee (‘TOPC’) for Africa & the Middle East. In this role, she assists members to evaluate and recommend improvements to trade mark office practices, procedures, operations and regulations at national, regional and international levels. This also includes developing educational programs tailored specifically for trade mark offices.

Additionally, Mona is a member of the AIPPI UAE National Group and plays an active role in the Communication Committee. She shares key updates on intellectual property topics within the UAE fostering awareness and collaboration in the IP community.
