We are pleased to announce that we have appointed 4 new Principals to Rouse’s leadership.

New Rouse Principals 2024

Maura Canavan – South Africa – Trade Marks & Brands

Previously a Principal, Maura stepped back when she and her family moved to South Africa. She has been with Rouse since 1994 as its first trainee working in the London office and then played a key role in the launch of Rouse Africa in 2016. She has been the South Africa General Manager since then. Maura handles a wide range of contentious and non-contentious IP matters across the whole region. She has a particular focus on trade mark portfolio management and enforcement programmes. Maura advises all business sectors from African start-ups to international multi-national companies.

Flora Fang – China – Trade Marks & Brands

Based in Beijing, Flora has been practising IP law in China for more than 18 years.  Flora advises on a wide range of IP issues, in both contentious and non-contentious matters, including filing applications, oppositions, cancellations, reviews, availability searches and clearance opinions, renewals, infringement opinions, and overall IP protection strategies for both foreign and domestic companies.  In particular, she has handled the trade mark portfolios of a range of US (and EU) MNCs and domestic conglomerates in the technology, pharmaceuticals, life sciences, FMCG and retail industries.

Melvin Mei – China – Trade Marks & Brands

A trade mark attorney in our Shanghai office, Melvin is highly experienced in counselling clients on the protection, commercialisation and enforcement of trade marks, design patents and copyright in China. He has managed trade mark portfolios for overseas and domestic Chinese organisations covering a wide spectrum of industries. He has provided pre-filing and clearance brand advice, prosecuted numerous cases before the Chinese trade mark authorities, acted in administrative and civil litigation before the courts, enforced rights at the local authorities and customs. He is a prolific writer of articles on IP which are regularly published in various media globally.

Khanh Nguyen – Vietnam – Enforcement

Khanh is a dual-qualified lawyer in Vietnam and Washington, D.C., and a registered IP agent before the Intellectual Property Office of Vietnam. He works within our Enforcement service from our Ho Chi Minh City office. With extensive experience in IP enforcement and management, he also has significant experience in consulting matters related to commercial law, personal data protection, cybersecurity, media, and advertising law. His practice has a special focus on dispute resolution and Khanh has been serving many clients from different industries around the world to protect their IP rights in Vietnam.

These promotions follow Waldo Steyn’s arrival at Rouse in July and are being announced at the same time as new businesses, Konsert and aera, have joined the Rouse Group welcoming 17 new Principals from the two organisations.
