Rouse, Arnold & Siedsma and Lusheng Host Hangzhou IP Training on Early Certainty

Published on 28 Apr 2026 | 1 minute read

On 17 April, the Hangzhou Intellectual Property Protection Center hosted a training session on “European Patent Strategy - Early Certainty”. Landy Jiang and Jensen Li from Lusheng Law Firm, Rouse’s strategic partner in China and Gerwald Verdijck from Arnold & Siedsma, a Rouse Group company, shared their practical insights in European Patent Strategy.

Landy opened the session by welcoming attendees and giving a brief overview of the Lusheng and the Rouse Group and their key strengths in patent services.

The training was tailored to Hangzhou companies looking to expand into Europe. Gerwald and Jensen shared the concept, benefits, and practical use of strategies for early certainty in European patent grant, drawing on their extensive case experience.

"Some companies run into trouble when applying for European patents – translation issues can lead to claim language that doesn't match the applicant's original intention. And if the specification lacks concrete embodiments to back it up, the claims can end up unclear or incomplete, which really slows down the process. If companies apply an early‑certainty strategy upfront, they can spot problems early, cut down on office action responses, and speed up grant," Gerwald explained. He also shared the cases showing the value of putting this strategy in place before building a European patent portfolio.

Gerwald also shared several case studies to demonstrate the impact of the strategy: lower costs, broader protection, and faster examination.
