Building legal protection to create business value
Overview
Rouse Consultancy was hired, by the first large-scale producer of BioCarbon in the Nordics, to review their existing control strategy in order for it to better support its offering to customers. The client builds, owns and operates high-precision, large-scale pyrolysis plants which turn organic residuals from the forestry and wood industry into high-value output in BioCarbon and energy. By replacing the extensive use of coal, the client’s business can enable fossil-free steel production and help the shift towards a more environmentally friendly steel industry.
In order to become successful, the company needed to create a strong and natural position in the value chain of large companies wanting to become green and fossil-free. The client’s challenge was expressing and visualising the value of its rather unknown product on the market and introducing this value to new and existing customers. Reaching out to potential clients and making them understand the offer was of vital importance and a much-needed next step. In this case, the client faced challenges in describing what the product was, how it should be used, its logistic and technical features and what the actual benefits of the product were.
Our approach
Through a process with the client, Rouse screened the business and its existing control strategy in order to identify the key capabilities that differentiated them from their competitors. This enabled a categorisation of unique features, and the value proposition became apparent. The client also received valuable help in analysing the business as well as advice on how the technology could be protected in a more effective way.
Value created
Through a refinement of the existing control strategy, Rouse created appropriate synergy effects in visualising, prioritising and structuring how the business could be run in a more profitable way. This helped the client gain a greater focus on where and how they should prioritise their effort to create a stronger position in the value chain . The client gained an understanding of how they could continue building legal protection that contributed to business value to both themselves, their partners and customers.
